Banner Exchange

This is a way of getting your site seen on others. You supply a banner of standard dimensions (468*60 .gif) to the service and place their code on your pages. Three examples are shown below. The sites tend to be based in USA and hence have USA based ads.

Partner Links

Some sites have links to other sites built into them. You can apply to have your site included so that others can click on a link to open up your site. In return your site will display adverts for other sites

See Learn South West Links Page

Sometimes linked sites are divided into categories.

Free 4 all Links

Various sites organise 'free for all' links sections for websites to run. Visitors to your site can add links to their own website directly onto your site. The site is usually submitted to the webmaster for approval first.

One example is run by the HotPlugins service.

Site Promotion Services and Sites

If a site is to be successful it must be accessible. This normally means being listed on search engines. You can either pay a company to submit your site or you can prepare it and submit it yourself.Self submission - the web is awash with companies trying to sell their services/products or selling their advice. Several points about preparation:

Read some articles about submission. Look at articles in WrittenHelp section

You need to prepare your information contained in the head of the main index page and the main site pages. this involves preparing the 'meta tags', especially the site description and keywords. You also need page titles.
See Dreamweaver site page on this.

  • You need a site submission service or program to send the site to be examined by search engine 'spiders'. You can buy programs for this or use cut down free ones.
  • Alternatively you can get a company to submit your site 'free'. This may mean the company will hope to get some commercial gain from you, perhaps as a spin off from using their free services. A typical service is from Worldwide Promoter.com Read the text file and look at their banner ad.

  • Have a look at a selection of such companies below and how to submit to several major search engines.

Software Submit .NET - FREE and PREMIUM site and software submission service.

  • You need to keep the site up to date. Consensus is not to resubmit the site frequently. If you however make major changes this will be worthwhile as the site will need to be reindexed
